From Kristin, founder:
Growing up there were always two things you could count on about me; being a bit sassy, and running. Whether it be running on the soccer fields, running away from my mom (after giving her too much sass) or running around the track, I was always moving.
But in October of 2012 I was told I needed to have surgery on my left knee. You can imagine how devastating a blow this was for me. For the first time, I was told I couldn’t do what I did best and even more crushing was that post rehab, I would need to consider non-running activities for my physical therapy. The doctors also suggested that maybe, just maybe, I needed to slow down! Those of you who know me well, know that ‘slow down’ are not words in my vocabulary, but this is where the love of cycle was born.
I’ll admit it wasn’t love at first sight. I started teaching cycle at local box gyms and tried hard to find my new groove. Already successfully teaching a plethora of other fitness classes and loving them for years, I couldn’t figure out why cycle and I weren’t clicking. Then a friend introduced me to a totally different style of cycle, a lot more rhythmic and a lot more fun. After driving to Richmond as well as DC to test out this new style on a pretty regular basis, friends convinced me that the crush had turned into a full-blown obsession and it was time to do something about it… and purvelo was born.
